Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish System Grey Matters

Hi friends! Hope you all had a great weekend! The weather was gorgeous after a super rainy and cold week, so we took advantage and had a great time at the dog park. Well until we ended up covered in mud! But that's usually what happens when your small person goes after a rogue tennis ball and slips into a puddle, lol!

So if you follow me on FB (you totally should, btw) you may have seen a few pics from a five day wear test that I did with the new Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish System. Let me preface by saying five whole days wearing the same color is sooooo hard! I maybe go two days with the same color. But I sacrificed myself all in the name of beauty blogging!

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish System

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Two Step Polish System

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Grey Matters

Grey Matters is a dusty muted turquoise cream. I am all about this shade! The muted softer colors are always so flattering and easily one of my go-to favs. The formula of the polish was very similar to traditional polish. It was smooth and easy to apply with no issues like pooling or streaking. I used two coats for full coverage.

Since this is a polish "system," it applies with multiple steps. The first step is to apply the color of your choice - in my case it was Grey Matters. The next step is to use the special uv reactive Miracle Gel top coat. I applied the two coats of Grey Matters as I stated above and did my normal clean up along the cuticles and side walls of my nails. Then I applied a thin,
even coat of the Miracle Gel top coat, wrapping the free edge of each nail as I went. The top coat is uv reactive - which means that it requires sun light to completely cure. Luckily I swatched this on a sunny day! Now I didn't have to go outside and sit with my hands in the sun, but I did sit next to the window in my office and held them up to catch the light a bit. In total, it took about 10 minutes for the polish to cure. I have read that for some it takes longer. But it is up to nail chemistry and the climate where you live. When I was ready to take it off, I simply used a cotton ball soaked with acetone remover and it wiped off as easy as any polish.

The system claims to have 14 days of lasting color and shine, so I did a wear test to see how well it works! Now like I said, I did a 5 day wear test because 14 days is literally unbearable for a nail blogger!

Day 3: Minimal wear at the corners of my free edge. Slight scuffing.

Day 5: More obvious tip wear and slight chipping at corners. Finish has dulled quite a bit.

This was done with all my normal daily activities: showers, dishes, cleaning, child wrangling, etc. and the wear is very minimal compared to a normal polish/top coat. I will say that my dominate hand had slightly more wear with small chipping along the cuticle lines. It was still a lot less than a traditional polish would show.

Overall, I think this is a really great drugstore product if you want to try out gel polish without buying a light kit (which is crazy expensive!). I could see it being really convenient while traveling because of the lasting capabilities and the ease of not carrying around a ton of polish supplies. However, I am not overly fond of the top coat finish. I am a sucker for a glassy shine and this just did not deliver. But I am very pleased with the durability and the wear of the Miracle Gel system!

So have you tried out the Miracle Gel polish? Or is the thought of wearing the same polish more than a few days just too terrible?!

  1. That is such a pretty color! I've never tried any kind of gel polish so this line might be something for me to check out.

  2. Yeah, I swap manis too much for this type of polish to be enticing for me. And to make matters worse, I am really starting to actively dislike these types. I was in my favorite nail supply store a week ago, which used to be a virtual mecca of nail polish and they have rearranged shelves and gotten rid of at least half of their regular polish to accommodate all the gel polish coming out. I cannot tell you how mad I was (and still am!). I felt like crying! I wish gel polish would fall in a black hole!

  3. Awesome review! I change polish too much to really invest in an actual gel system (I'm sure you can relate!), but at this price point I'd be willing to check out a drug store alternative like this one, just for fun. A lot of my co-workers use the Miracle Gel system and seem to really like it!
