Pipedream Polish Halloween 2013 - She's A Thriller and Feed The Monster

Hey friends! Hope you all are having a fun weekend! Nothing exciting going on here, I'm kinda boring and usually a home body! Though I am really excited for Halloween this Thursday, and have some holiday appropriate polish to share. I sure hope you all aren't tired of Pipedream Polish, because I am definitely not!

Pipedream Polish - She's A Thriller (Halloween 2013)

over Zoya - Darcy/Wet n Wild - The Clock Strikes Orange gradient

 

She's A Thriller is a black and white glitter topper that has circle glitters! Yep, circle glitters. You know I love them! It is of course, a perfect polish. No typical issues, and I even got the larger circles out without having to fish for them! One coat is all that is needed for this amount of coverage, no dabbing at all. Oh, if only all glitter toppers were this good! I decided to do a little Halloween gradient for the base, and it turned out pretty awesome, I think! As far as I know, this is not an LE and there are still some available.

 

 

 

 

 

Pipedream Polish - Feed The Monster (Halloween 2013)

Feed The Monster is an orange, fuchsia and gun metal glitter topper with hex glitters in various sizes. Sadly, this beauty was LE and is now sold out. As much as I hate sharing stuff that is no longer available, I did so for the purpose of overall review and to show the consistency of quality. It is very rare to find a mainstream company that continually puts out top notch products, but this Indie brand is doing that. It is on par with every other Pipedream Polish in my stash, and not a single one has let me down in beauty or performance. So even though, you can't get this particular polish, there is a wonderful selection to choose from, and I know you won't be disappointed!

 

 

I am actually rather spoiled now, by April's creations. But that's okay! Just means that I am getting awesome goodies!

Splatter Accent and Textural Contrast

Hey y'all! Short and sweet post today, I'm running a bit behind on things at home, so that leaves little time for blogging. Today is all about contrast. I love the textured nail polish trend, and have been looking for ways to incorporate it into nail art.

 

I ran across the new LE Wet N Wild Tough Girl collection a few nights ago, and grabbed a couple of the polishes. They are a little pricey for WnW and the small bottle, so for the time being, I only have two. Full swatches and review will be posted later on, but first a little nail art!

Totally not planned, I had the WnW Ultra Violet on earlier in the day, and swapped it out for the textured when I got home from the store. But, holy crap, I love the outcome. Splatters are super fun and I need to do more of them! Plus this texture is so full of win. Yay for happy accidents!

 

 

Off to clean the house now! Fun times, I tell ya.

Geometric Brights

Hey guys! Hope you all had a great weekend! The start of school is getting closer and closer, and I have been running around like a crazy person getting clothes and supplies for my girlie before the big day. Not to mention, trying to squeeze in as much family stuff as I can, before she starts. Other than that, I have been trying to improve my nail art skills, and one of my biggest problems is line art. Tho, I think it may have had to do with my brush, because I recently started using a super thin brush, and have had much better control.

 

Most of the time, I get my inspiration from Pinterest. My nail art board is steadily growing and I want to try out everything I pin! I recently came across this pin and thought it would be a good way to practice my lines.

Drip Nails: Nail Of The Day

Hey lovelies! So yesterday, I posted the most awesome Wet n Wild Pop Art Craze nail polish collection. Today, I want to show you a little nail art using those polishes, because they are all pretty perfect for nail art. I made a sort of "to-do" list of nail art to try after I finished with my challenge, and the first one was drips.

There is something so visually appealing about well executed drip nails. I dunno, but I love them. After reading this tutorial, I gave it ago. I was only brave enough to try them on an accent nail, but after how awesome it turned out, I am going to do a full mani! Gah! I love it!!! I kinda want to do a little nail art dance in celebration. But that would be weird....right?! Yeah...

I have another design using the Pop Art Craze polishes lurking in my brain, but that will have to wait until another day. Tomorrow, I have one more lovely polish from the RBL Blogger 2.0 release swatched!

Wet n Wild Pop Art Craze Collection

Hey guys and gals! Hope you all are having a fabulous Monday. Mine is not so great. Mother nature has decided to take my hormones on a roller coaster ride and I am not okay with it. So pardon me and the less than exuberant post. That being said, I have swatches and a review of the new LE Wet n Wild Wild Shine Pop Art Craze nail polish collection, and I wanted to share it with you guys so that you can get them while you can.

 

So let's get done to business. The formula for all of the polishes, except Stand The Test Of Lime, is pretty consistent through out, so I'll go over that here. All needed about 2 coats. The polishes are a cream/jelly hybrid (crelly) and have a fantastic shine without top coat. Because of the formula, I did experience slight cuticle drag if I was not patient and waited for each coat to dry. If you apply thinner coats, you may require a 3rd coat to level out any streaks or patchy spots. Dry time was nice and quick, but again, I had to wait between each coat to prevent bubbling.

Wet n Wild Wild Shine - Listening To Blue Reed (Pop Art Craze LE)

 

Listening To Blue Reed is a cobalt blue crelly, in the same color family as Nails Inc Baker ST. and Essie Butler Please, tho I'm not sure if they are dupes. Haven't done a comparison yet.

  

 

Wet n Wild Wild Shine - Stand The Test Of Lime (Pop Art Craze LE)

 

Stand The Test Of Lime is a bright green jelly. This is the only one in the collection that varies in formula and application. Since it is a jelly, I needed 3 coats for full opacity. Pretty standard for a jelly. Great color.

 

 

Wet n Wild Wild Shine - Who Is Ultra Violet (Pop Art Craze LE)

 

Ultra Violet is a red toned purple crelly. It is more red in person, but my camera and purple polish do not get along.

 

 

Wet n Wild Wild Shine - Teal Slowly And See (Pop Art Craze LE)

 

Teal Slowly And See is a bright turquoise blue crelly. This one is more cream than the others, but still has a similar formula. It also stains like a mother, so double up on your base coat!

 

 

Wet n Wild Wild Shine - The Clock Strikes Orange (Pop Art Craze LE)

 

The Clock Strikes Orange is a bright creamy orange crelly. This is my personal favorite from the set. It is a perfect orange, not too red or yellow.

 

 

Wet n Wild Wild Shine - A Blank Canvas (Pop Art Craze LE)

 

A Blank Canvas is a clean white crelly. It is super bright and my camera kinda bugged out! Sorry about that! The crelly formula gives it a really fresh look, not chalky at all. Also it is not streaky, which is a big plus for a white polish.

 

These are all really great polishes, and are a perfect set for some awesome nail art. So expect some posts to show up soon featuring these babies! Not only that, they are hella cheap, about a buck a piece, depending on where you go.

 

If you want any of these, make sure you hunt them down as soon as possible, because they are limited edition. Noveau Cheap has a fantastic map of all the locations where they are being carried.

Watermelon Nails: Nail Of The Day

Hey everyone! I have a little summer nail art for today's post. We only have about a month left of summer before my little one starts her first year of school, but I am holding on to these last days with everything I have. I think this might actually be my first official summer design since everything has been done according to the nail art challenge.

I fell in love with the idea of watermelon nails from Sarah of Chalkboard Nails. Her take was really fun and I wanted to do my spin on the design. Can I just admit right now that I may have squealed when I finished them?!? So super cute and totally doable! Aside from doing a jelly sandwich with Maya and Clearly Spotted, I just used Stand The Test Of Lime and my striper brush to paint a few stripes on top of Wild Cactus. Easy peasy, folks.

Nom. Who doesn't love watermelon in the summer?!

Sunday Stamped #2

Happy Sunday! I, sadly, only have two stamped manicures to show today. I actually did two more, this week, but totally flaked & forgot to take pictures! >_< Bad nail blogger! Anyway, the two I have are really nice! I have gotten loads better & I think I have figured out the problems I was having. That is the biggest hurdle of stamping, I think. Trying to figure out what works best for you and your nails.

The first one is my favorite. I love how the two colors go so well together! I know I will be using that combo again. And I am really pleased how well it turned out, too! It was the first one that I managed to cover my whole nail with out any bald spots. I also need to find a good black to stamp with. The last one would have turned out so much better if I had a better color. Oh well, learning experience right?

Nail of the Day: Show some PRIDE!

This weekend was Gay Pride in Austin. To show my support, I painted a Pride inspired mani!

 

The LGBT community holds a very special place in my heart. My mother-in-law is gay, and I have gone through my own struggles of gender identity and sexual experimentation. My first Pride celebration was an amazing experience, and something that I will never forget. I hope to take my daughter one day (when she is an adult!) to a pride with my husband and m.i.l. We want her to understand, above all, that everyone deserves to be loved, and we should all be able to love who we choose. Now enough of my soapbox, on to the mani! ; )

 

I decided to try some very basic nail art and free handed a rainbow striped accent nail, along with the "NO H8" logo on my middle finger. My stripes and lettering aren't the best, so be kind!

 

I used Spoiled by Wet n Wild Visibly Slimming black cream as a base and the following colors for the rainbow stripes:

Spoiled Comparison

After adding the Spoiled polishes to my stash, I wanted to do a side by side comparison of a few that I thought might be dupes.

 

 

 

 

Spoiled - Toad-ally Amazing vs. Zoya - Wednesday

 

 

 

No dupes, but definitely in the same family. The Zoya polish is a bit more blue, and a bit more muted than the Spoiled polish. The Spoiled has that added shimmer to it, that makes it a bit special and different. Even if they are similar, I like them both and don't mind having them in my stash.

 

 

Spoiled - Deeper Dive vs. Sinful Color - Kissy

 

 

 

Close enough to be dupes. The base on both is exactly the same black/teal but the gold fleck is more dense in the Sinful Color polish. It also has a better formula than the Spoiled polish, but they both stain horribly!

 

 

Spoiled - Paying with Platinum vs. Zoya - Adina

 

 

No dupes, but I actually think they are the reverse of each other! Zoya is purple with a silver/green color shift and Spoiled is a silver with a purple/green color shift. Love them both, and I don't think I will ever have too many duo-chrome polishes!



Spoiled by Wet n Wild Swatches

Good morning, everyone! I have several swatches of Wet n Wild's Spoiled line of polish, sold exclusively at CVS. This is a "new to me" line. I used to work for a competitor of CVS (shhhh, don't tell!) before I had my daughter & out of habit, never shop there. After doing a bit of blog lurking, I found a swatch of  a lovely rosy pink foil & did a bit of spontaneous polish purchasing!

 

 

 

Spoiled - Shrimp on the Barbie

 

Shrimp on the Barbie is a warm rose pink base with gold flecks. This is my kind of polish, and the one that caused me to splurge! It's everything I look for, color-wise & finish. I'm a huge sucker for glass fleck/foil polish.

Good coverage for a $2 drugstore polish. 3 coats for smooth, sparkly color. Average dry time. It does need a good top coat, the foil dulls a bit after it dries.

It looks so lovely, both in and out of the bottle. Definitely worth the splurge.

 

 



 

Spoiled - Toad-ally Amazing

 

This one is a very familiar minty green, slightly turquoise cream that has been so popular since China Glaze For Audrey. The main difference is this one has a very soft, subtle silvery shimmer. Oh it won me over with this little extra!

This one was a tiny bit on the thick side, & it dragged if I went too quickly with the next coat. 2 coats for full coverage, but I did a third to even it all out.

 

 

Spoiled - I'm So Jaded

 

So this isn't exactly Jade, it's a bright lime neon. I was really surprised how bright it is. Also, unlike traditional neons, it dries to a satin finish instead of matte. Either way, I actually liked this one a lot! It was a bit sheer on the first coat, but quickly built up and was opaque after 3 coats.

 

 

 

Spoiled - Paying with Platinum

 

I am in love with this one, definitely a "ooooh" moment when I put it on. I knew it was a duo-chrome when I ordered it, but golly, it's amazing. I really wasn't expecting this much color shift from a cheapo drugstore brand. A bit similar to Zoya Adina, but I'm pretty sure the silver/purple/green color shift is brighter & more pronounced in this one. It was really hard to capture all the different flashes of color, but check out the bottle! Blue/green/silver/purple all in one polish! And yes, it all translates on the nail!

Formula wise, it was a bit tricky. The first coat was super sheer, so I did a thicker coat, the second time around & it took for ever to dry. 4 coats total.

 

 

 Low light

Once I figured out how to apply it, I knew it would be one of my favorites from the set. Love a good duo chrome.

 

 

 

Spoiled - Deeper Diver

The white balance on my camera ate the pretty teal of this color & turned it to an inky blue. The actual polish is a blackened teal jelly base with gold fleck & bright teal micro glitter. Despite it being so dark (I'm not a fan of dark polishes), I found this one to be really pretty, especially the contrast of gold flecks.

Out of all the polishes, I got, this one had the worst formula. The jelly base was really sheer, 4 coats for full coverage. Not to mention, something about the fleck glitter caused horrible streaking and clumping, and it dulled almost completely when it dried. No where near as nice as Shrimp on the Barbie. It also stained really bad. My hands and nails were covered with blue splotches after I took it off.

Despite the horrible formula, I still swoon over this one. I'm not one to give up a polish if it's pretty, regardless of it's flaws.

 

 

 

Spoiled - Trust Fund Baby over Visibly Slimming

 

Trust Fund Baby is a clear polish loaded with medium gold, blue and black hex glitter and pink square glitter. I layered it over Visibly Slimming with is just a basic black cream. A good choice if you need a black polish in your stash.

I got this glitter simply because I don't have too many clear glitters in my stash. It's nothing super special, but pretty none the less. Good for layering or nail art. I actually want to do a glitter gradient over a grey base, with this, sometime.

My only issue with this polish is the glitter application. I really had to go slow and work at the placement, otherwise, I took off glitter after each swipe.

 

 

One of the biggest issues with every polish was the awful brush. It was uneven and fluffy, which can cause application problems if you aren't patient. I've seen some brush pics on other blogs with stray bristles, lucky, none of mine had that problem.  Overall, for a cheap drugstore brand, this line is a good choice if you are in need of a quick polish fix. I'm pretty sure I will be getting more in the future.
