Hi friends! I have a little different review post for you guys today. Every once in a while, I get a nail product other than polish and I try to add it to the mix of polish reviews and nail art posts. Especially when it comes in handy to those of us who are polish fiends!
A few weeks ago, I saw a display with some new items in the Sally Hansen "Big" line (i.e. Big Matte Base Coat) and one was the Big Pee Off Base Coat. And since I know what the general purpose of peel off base coats are for, I decided to give it a go.

Sally Hansen Big Peel Off Base Coat
If you aren't familiar with "peel off base coats," they are used for chunky glitter polish so that when you are ready to take the glitter off, you can simply peel it off instead of soaking it off with acetone wrapped in foil. Most are glue-based products creating the peel-off effect. The Sally Hansen version is no different.
I tested it with various glitters and even a couple of creams to see how well it performed. I also did a wear test to see if it was worth using as a go-to base coat as well.
The directions say to apply a thick layer to clean and dry nails, let it dry completely and paint as normal. I found that applying one thick layer takes longer to dry than two thinner layers. After the first time, I used it this way. The base coat is dry when it is no longer white - while it wont be totally transparent, it won't look like my swatch photo above. Once it was dry, I polished as usual. I had no issues with polish application on either the glitters or the creams. It actually worked really well as a ridge filler! Wear time was okay - not fantastic. I was able to get about 24hrs of wear before it started lifting along the side walls of my nails - and this was after I had taken a shower.
Removal is pretty straight forward. I use either an orange stick, or something like that to start lifting the polish off at my cuticle line. It peels off easily and if it was completely dry when you first polished, it should peel off in one go. It didn't take off the top layers of my nail plate either - which is always something to be wary of so you don't weaken your nail.
Overall, I think it is a good product if you wear glitter polish often or you change your polish a lot. I use it when I have multiple products to swatch so I lessen my exposure to acetone.
As far as I know, this is part of the Sally Hansen permanent line and it can be found with the other "Big" products.

Great review! It seems like a really nice peel off base coat. I need to check it out now.
ReplyDeleteDo you think this could be used on the skin around your nails to decrease clean-up time after messy applications such as water marbling, sponging, stamping, etc...?
ReplyDeleteYes, it does! I had the same thought and tried it out the other night with a watermarble. It worked great!
