Friday Favorites: Red

Hi friends! As promised, today's post is the first part of a new weekly series sharing my favorites from my stash! I decided to go by color, finish and then by brand. So hopefully I will get to use some neglected polish over the next several weeks, and you guys might find a new color or three to try!

Since we're starting with color, the first Favorites post is my fav red polishes! If you have read my blog for a while, you probably know that red isn't a shade I naturally gravitate towards. Over the last few years of polish collecting, I have come across a few reds that I do actually like. Although only one of them is a cream finish, lol! I do like my polish to have a little something extra!

Guest Post From Mimi At Three Is A Charm

Hello everyone! Hope you all are having a fine Friday! More guest posting goodness today from the wonderful Mimi! She is a super cool lady, and I adore her! Not to mention her gorgeous swatches!

This is my first guest post as a blogger!  I'm so excited to be able to post on Bridget's blog.  I'm constantly drooling over her swatches and nails that I'm flabbergasted that she asked me to do a guest post.  

I wanted to do one of my favorite kinds of manicures, a jelly sandwich!  For the jelly I used L'oreal Miss Pixie a bright blue jelly.  And I used Lacquer Lust's Opal, a shimmery polish topper with iridescent flakes, to sandwich in between the jelly. 

First I used 4 coats of Miss Pixie.  Yes 4 coats.  Jellies, while beautiful, take a lot of work because they are so sheer.  You need it to be sheer to get that squishy quality of a jelly polish.  It gives the polish depth.  Look how pretty this is!!!

Then I used two coats of Opal on top of Miss Pixie and added another coat of Miss Pixie on top.  Opal ended up being quite disappointing to me.  The polish was really thick, but even though it was thick there wasn't much payoff.  There were hardly any flakes on the nail after one thick coat that I had to use two coats.  Even after two coats the flakes were sparse.  I shook the bottle vigorously after the shockingly disappointing first coat.  Not only were there hardly any flakes, but the flakes that were on there didn't really reflect off the polish like I how I was hoping for.  I think I was really disappointed because this was not cheap!  This was a $12 bottle of polish!  Oh and I forgot to mention that on my right hand some of the flakes didn't lay flat and were sticking off my nails even after I top coated it.  

I always love to matte my jellies!  So here is my mani with my new favorite matte top coat, Hard Candy Matte-ly in Love. I do like the matte version way better!  Matte top coat saved the day!!

I hope you enjoyed this post even though I was a bit of a Debbie Downer.  I still love a good jelly sandwich manicure especially with flakies!  And I never know how to close a blog post.  So good day to you all!

Well it is always a bummer to have a bad experience with a polish! But I think the end result is pretty spectacular, and that blue jelly is like whoa! Thank you so much Mimi for your honest review and killer jelly sandwich!

Lacquer Lust Ruby From The Birthstone Collection

Hello friends, happy Monday! Hope you all had an awesome Valentine's weekend! I had a great date night with my husband, we saw American Hustle, which was so great! Jennifer Lawrence was hilarious and totally stole the show. She even had a bit about nail polish! Saturday, I got to have lunch with some other lacquer heads in Austin and San Antonio. It was my first "meet up" with other nail polish people and it was a blast!

Today, I have Ruby from the Lacquer Lust birthstone collection. My birthday is in July, and the ruby is my birthstone. It took me a while to get this, but I am so glad I did! Even if it red!

Lacquer Lust Ruby (Birthstone Collection)

Ruby, just like the stone, is a bright red with pink undertones. It is a linear holo, just like all of the birthstone polishes. It has an almost jelly feel when applied, and I think it is an awesome representation of a ruby. The whole set is beautiful actually! Formula was flawless, this is one coat of perfection! All that color and holo rainbows in one amazing coat!

Now that I finally have Ruby knocked off my Lacquer Lust wish list, I am a happy addict! Naturally there are quite a few more, but this one was the priority!

2013 Top Ten and Year In Review

Hey friends! Can you believe it is 2014?! I hope this year takes it's time and gives everyone moments to enjoy life. This past year has been quite the roller coaster, personally, as well as for my blog. I cannot even fathom what the next year will bring, but that's part of the fun!

Lacquer Lust - Morning Sunshine

Hey y'all, happy Monday! Hope the weekend was a good one. I want this week to go by as quickly as possible because next Monday is my birthday! I will be 33 and I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that. But I will be getting moar polish and that is definitely something to be happy about!

 

Today I have something new to share - thermal polish! A.K.A. polish that changes color depending on body/ambient temperatures. Thermal polish is a completely new thing for me, and I wasn't sure exactly how I felt about the trend, to be honest. Until I stumbled upon Lacquer Lust that is.

Lacquer Lust - Morning Sunshine

 

Morning Sunshine is a peach/coral thermal crelly with tiny gold flakies. It is beautiful! I cannot even begin to describe how much I luuuurvvvve this polish. The color change is awesome, very obvious and sensitive too. I was completely fascinated by it for the three days I wore this. Formula was nice, but strange. A little thick, but not problematic. More gluey in consistency, but again, it wasn't something that was an issue at all. It just felt different that other polish when I was applying that. I used three coats, two worked fine, but I used a third to cover a tiny bit of VNL. Application was really good, no dragging, pooling, or anything else. It was also kinda cool watching the polish change color while I was painting my nails.

Can you guess why I picked this particular thermal to try? If you said Coral, you're right! And you read my blog. Which means you are awesome. Anyway, I am totally blown away with this, and I am dying to get my hands on more thermals.
